Zusammenfassung

Story about an inseparable friendship between two boys. They are 12 years old, one is German, the other Czech. One is called Josef or Pepitschek, as the Czechs say, and the other is called Jirschi. Both live in a small town in the Bohemian Forest and in 1938 experience how their 'paradise' is slowly but surely crushed in the conflict between Czechs and Germans. 1938 was the year in which Hitler, through international pressure on Czechoslovakia, brought about a connection of the Sudetenland to the German Reich. This is the historical framework in which the story of the two boys and this village-shaped area in the Bohemian Forest takes place.
